Today, we are shining a spotlight on an incredible volunteer: Marianne Raffin, who sews history with heart. Marianne was recently recognized by the United Way of Southeastern Michigan for her exceptional commitment to volunteerism.

Marianne has contributed to Meadow Brook Hall in a wide variety of roles: as a docent, in preservation work and especially during the holiday season, which she finds particularly magical at Meadow Brook. She is also a proud member of the Meadow Brook Garden Club and The Questers, an organization focused on preservation, restoration, and education. Through The Questers, she has helped secure grants to support Meadow Brook’s mission.

This year’s curriculum ties some of Meadow Brook’s most unique artifacts into hands-on creations. One example has students learning about the estate’s unique uranium art glass collection – that glows bright under a black light – and then make their own glow-in-the-dark suncatchers.

In this twist on our popular Twilight Tours, guests are invited to enjoy an evening garden party in the style of The Great Gatsby. It will be a night of hot jazz and cold drinks set at the extravagant historic mansion and estate – worthy of Jay Gatsby himself. This year marks the 100th anniversary of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel, “The Great Gatsby,” and Meadow Brook is celebrating in style.

The annual event is a collaboration between Oakland University, the City of Rochester Hills and Re-Leaf Michigan.

Volunteers are the heart of Meadow Brook, bringing passion and dedication to everything from guest engagement to preservation efforts. During National Volunteer Week, we proudly honor their invaluable contributions to our legacy and community.
