At Meadow Brook Hall, the act of volunteering is more than a contribution—it is a continuation of a legacy. From its earliest days, the estate has been shaped by a spirit of generosity and volunteer service that continues to define the guest experience today.

From docents and tour hosts to museum store attendants, Garden Club members, Squires, and Naturalists, the talents of our 450+ volunteers keep Meadow Brook poised and thriving—preserving its legacy while creating memorable experiences for every visitor.
National Volunteer Week offers a meaningful opportunity to recognize the remarkable efforts of this dedicated community. Established in 1974, the annual observance celebrates the individuals who give their time in service to others—an ideal moment to reflect on the impact of volunteerism at Meadow Brook Hall.
Last year, hundreds of active volunteers gave more than 18,400 hours of service, supporting the estate in countless ways.

Their work spans far beyond what guests may see—from caring for collections and interpreting the Hall’s history for thousands of visitors, to managing invasive species in the woodlands, installing deer fencing and seasonal décor, untangling holiday lights, welcoming guests at events, and assisting in the Museum Store. Their dedication is woven into every aspect of the Meadow Brook experience.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we extend our sincere gratitude to each member of Meadow Brook’s volunteer community. Their generosity continues a tradition established by Matilda Dodge Wilson and Alfred Wilson—one rooted in service, stewardship and a deep commitment to giving back.
For those inspired to become part of this tradition, opportunities to get involved are available throughout the year. Volunteers not only support the preservation of a historic landmark, but also become part of a community dedicated to sharing its story for generations to come.
