The Flashlight Tour reveals the mansion after dark, illuminating hidden details and exquisite craftsmanship that are often missed during daytime visits. Led by knowledgeable docents, guests go beyond the ropes, inside cabinets and into tucked-away spaces uncovering secret features throughout the historic home. With only ten guests per tour, this after-hours experience is both intimate and unforgettable. Oakland University students receive free admission to this unique tour. Tours run select Tuesdays in February and March. Learn more at meadowbrookhall.org/flashlight.

Servants life

Students can also step into the world of the estate’s hardworking staff on the Servant’s Life Tour. This immersive experience explores the routines, responsibilities and real stories of the people who kept the mansion running behind the scenes. Oakland University students receive 20% off tickets for this tour. The tour runs at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on select Saturdays and Sundays in February and March. More information is available at meadowbrookhall.org/servants-life.

These specialty tours offer more than a walk through a historic home — they provide an opportunity to experience history up close and see spaces not typically open to the public.

Whether students are history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, or simply looking for a unique adventure right on campus, these tours deliver a one-of-a-kind experience just steps away from their classrooms.

Meadow Brook Hall is the historic home built by one of the automotive aristocracy’s most remarkable women, Matilda Dodge Wilson, widow of auto pioneer John Dodge, and her second husband, Alfred Wilson. Constructed between 1926 and 1929, Meadow Brook Hall represents one of the finest examples of Tudor-revival style architecture in America, and is especially renowned for its superb craftsmanship, architectural detailing and grand scale of 88,000 square-feet. It was the center of a country estate that included 1,400 acres, numerous farm buildings, recreational facilities, several residences and formal gardens. Named a National Historic Landmark in 2012, Meadow Brook Hall strives to preserve and interpret its architecture, landscape, and fine and decorative art so that visitors may be entertained, educated and inspired by history. Meadow Brook Hall is located in Rochester, Mich. on the campus of Oakland University.
