There is something a little extra special and a little extra sparkling about hosting a romantic winter wedding.

The coziest season opens up a world of wedding possibilities filled with whimsy and wonder. From breathtaking snowy photos and a premium selection of dates and vendors to setting just the right mood, here are our Top Four reasons why we love winter weddings.

1 – A Premium Selection of Vendors & Dates

During the prime summer wedding season, the most in-demand venues and vendors often book up years in advance – and Saturday evenings are always the first to go. When you think of your dream photographer, wedding planner, florist, band and more, you’ll see how difficult it can be to find a date when your favorite professionals will be available.

Choosing to host your wedding in the off-season winter months gives you a major advantage and increases your chances of securing the services of all the vendors who make the magic happen for your day. This may even translate into your guest list – many people are busier in the summer but welcome a special event to look forward to in the winter.

2 – So Much Snowy Style

Snow is the perfect backdrop for a bride. A fresh, clean flurry of snow sets off virtually every pop of color to perfection, and the moody winter weather inspires gorgeous color palettes from rich jewel tones to icy silks.

Few color palettes are as glamorous as deep garnet reds, sapphire blues and gleaming emerald. Floral arrangements have the chance to truly stand out—whether you opt for simple greenery or add drama with heaping bouquets.

Better still, you can get creative with your accessories. Add warm furs, lace sleeves or even a white cape to bring your own distinctive style to your ceremony and make your wedding party stand out. Winter weather is the best time for black tie and elegant evening gowns for your bridesmaids. Not only will their look add to the sophistication, but they’ll keep everyone warm.

3 – Avoid the Heat of High Summer

In January, February and March, you’ll plan for an indoor, climate controlled event, so there is no need to stress over the weather. You won’t need a backup ceremony site in case of rain and will avoid the humidity and heat of high summer.

Hosting a winter wedding at Meadow Brook Hall offers your guests a celebration to remember as they experience different spaces throughout the historic mansion for your ceremony, cocktail hour and reception.

Most couples opt to say their vows in our Grand Ballroom with either the two-story stained-glass windows or the massive stone fireplace as their backdrop. Cocktail hour invites guests to mingle and explore the main living spaces before dining in the Christopher Wren Dining Room and returning to the ballroom to dance.

4 – Plan Your Dream Wedding, For Less

By and large, most venues (and even some vendors) will offer a special rate if you plan your wedding in the winter season. Not only do you have the best selection of dates and options at this time of year, but you also get the best prices, which can be a major boost to your budget!

While there is certainly an allure to the bright blooms and sunny skies of a classic summer wedding—we are finding more and more to love about glamorous winter weddings. And let’s not forget—a winter wedding is the perfect time for a tropical honeymoon—and a lifetime of anniversary trips!
