Protests Against the Existing Order: The Rise of Populism
May 15, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
At the end of the 19th century, many Americans found themselves in a perfect storm of long-term economic decline, dissipating political influence, and evaporating cultural clout. Farmers fought back with a series of organizations, culminating with the Populist Party. They managed to create a template for future protests against wrenching social, economic, and cultural changes. Oakland University faculty member Bruce Zellers will be giving this lecture in the Meadow Brook Hall Ballroom.
